Internet at Stanburn
We are very excited about our network of computers which offer our pupils a number of advantages to support their learning.
As part of the school’s Information Communication Technology (ICT) programme we wish to offer pupils access to the Internet, the global network of computers you will have read about and seen on television. Access to the Internet will enable pupils to explore thousands of libraries and databases, while exchanging messages with other Internet users throughout the world.
We have considered the problems and issues surrounding e-mail and the Internet which have been highlighted by the media. Although some of the media interest is exaggerated, there is real cause for concern. Some material accessible via the Internet may contain items that are illegal, defamatory, inaccurate or potentially offensive to some people. Most of this material will be filtered or blocked by the company that provides our Internet access (LGfL) but no system based on technology alone can ever be perfect.
We believe that the benefits to pupils from access to the Internet, in the form of information resources and opportunities for collaboration, exceed any disadvantages.
However, before being allowed to use the Internet, all pupils must obtain parental permission. Please sign the attached Consent form below and send to school.
